What is a good efficiency for an EV?

For a standard EV, 3.5-4.5 mi/kWh is good. Smaller, lighter cars like the Fiat 500e or MG4 can exceed 4 mi/kWh. Larger SUVs like the Audi Q8 e-tron may achieve 2.5-3.0 mi/kWh. Driving style, speed, and temperature significantly affect efficiency.

How do I find my energy consumption?

Most EVs show cumulative energy consumption on the dashboard or infotainment system. You can also check your charging app for the total kWh delivered. For the most accurate reading, note the kWh at full charge, drive until you need to charge again, and record the kWh to refill.

Why is my efficiency worse in winter?

Cold temperatures reduce battery efficiency and cabin heating uses significant energy. In winter, expect 15-30% worse efficiency. Using heated seats and steering wheel instead of the cabin heater, pre-conditioning while plugged in, and maintaining tyre pressures all help.

This is the European standard for measuring EV efficiency, similar to L/100km for petrol cars. Lower numbers are better. A typical EV uses 15-20 kWh/100km. This is the unit used in official WLTP test results.
